RIVERTON NATIVE SCHOOL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —A letter appears in the “News” from John Arnett, which is somewhat misleading. Ho writes, “the school site was given by the Natives.” This is not correct, the site was a gift from Solomon Paotu. Arnett again writes : “ The building was put up by Government out of money due us for Stewart Island.” This is also incorrect, it was out of money due the Maoris (not us —John Arnett or the halfcastes. The school was erected for the Natives, not for the half-castes.—l am, &c., Tueophilus Daniec.
