WASTE LANDS BOARD.

Thursday, April 30. (From the “News.”)

Thomas Butler, of Drummond, complained that Messrs Stone and Eoberts, contractors, were throwing strippings into the creek in that locality, and so causing it to overflow to the injury of his and other settlers’ land.—lt was pointed out shat the subject was one for the consideration of the County Council, and it was decided to inform the writer accordingly. ;) Messrs. Martin and Perry appeared before the Board to explain the cause of their neglect in not supplying to the Board returns of timber cut by them. They stated that they had only cut 56,500 feet, : and :were quite willing to pay the royalty. The Eanger explained that the error was due to the negligence of their clerk who bad since been discharged, The explanation was accepted on consideration of the royalty due being paid at once. A. iSalter, Otautau, wrote, expressing surprise at the action of the Board in advertising Todd and Mclntosh’s expired lease of lignite pit for sale, and then, at a subsequent meeting, granting them, a renewal of lease in lieu of compensation for improvements effected by them. He stated that he came to town bn the advertised date, for the purpose of bidding for the lease, and added that, if sold in that manner it would have brought far more than 3s per acre. He thought that the present holders had received ample compensation iu the benefit derived through holding the lease at a very low figure.—Eecoived. The application of John Lloyd for section 3, block 7, Morley, was granted.
