PRESBYTERIAN SUNDAY SCHOOL SOIREE.
In fulfilment of a promise made in consequence of the annual picnic having lapsed at the beginning of the year, the children attending the above school were entertained at a soiree in the new Oddfellows’ Hall last evening. Despite the very inclement weather, over 150 of the genus juvenile sat down to a bountiful and attractive repast, catered for by Mrs Clark, to which it is needless to say full justice was done. A. considerable number of parents and others interested in the work of the Sunday school were also present. Mr Gr. Reid, the Superintendent, and the teachers of the school were active in their attendance upon the children, who from first to last eujoyed themselves immensely. Alter tea had been partaken of, the choir gave “Joy Bells” very nicely. Mr Strack,the leader, deserves credit for the efficient manner in which he has I in such a short time organised the choir, consisting principally of juveniles. Mr Cameron gave an address, stating that he was sure the children and also their seniors had thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and hoped they would do so to the end of tho meeting. He related several verv interesting anecdotes, which wore received by the young with great applause. Another contribution by the choir—“ Wonderful Words of Life ’’—was followed by an address from Mr G-. Reid. He said since the organist!ion of Sunday Schools, about 1.90 years ago, they had imparted considerable bihical knowledge to the voting; but still the work had not been properly attended to ; but that the hihle should bo studied more earnestly at horn *, and also, in the public schools. This was followed by another pleasing selection by the choir, entitle i, “ Little Miry” ; s.)!o by Miss J. Ireland, “ Homo they brought her warrior dea l”; a rocita ion “Ho no,’' by Miss E. Pattison ; solo, “ Hive me the wings of faith,” by Miss J. Boll; and another selection by the choir, “ it is well.” Mr Struck thou gave an address on mus e, stating how it surr minis us everywhere, and is an unfailing sour©.* of pleasure, A duet by | Miss Pattison and Miss It'.
