ROUND HILL.

TO THE EDXTOE. ~ ... . .. ” :! Sift',—Seeing an article in your last work’s issue, and it being so .'very misleading in its nature, I cannot let it pass without some notice. It was termed as another sludge channel for the Bound Hill, and Messrs Taylor and Patlison had applied for it. These gentlemen tvyilo make out "that it is n shorter way, arid more fall will be gained than by the way O' IfidwaVds’ .Creek, as ■ they call it. Now; it ha - neither of these advantages,/ There is just a much difference between the way they har, put it in!the paper and tbe right way as thcr is between light and darkness; That is.only the simple truth, and I have not got a ham for the other. A channel by such d route as the Round-Hill Would be next to an impossi bility. I know the country if they don’t They applied for the Lake water, and I ob jeoted to"-it in duo coarse. The granting o. the right, however, would do me personally very little barm, ns the water is near the sea .before it drops into the sludge channel- Bui that is not Tall. They mean to say that theV intend to Lake a channel through the Lake Now, if they were allowed to do such a thing, it would be of- rib use to them or anyone else; But does anyone suppose that they will ho allowed to go and disfigure the country ay destroying the Lake ? I say no ; and I will do nil in ray power to proven! it. I bildthat. I have got a right to the Lake, as we all have indirectly. Wheu we see the country going to destruction, we must make use of the power given us. Now, look at the Lake for one moment. It is a lovely arid valuable lake,' and it'makes every foot of land around it very valuable. Now, if it were thrown into sludge •And stagnant water holes, where would the beautiful lake be then, and where would the valuable land be ? The land would be worth nothing. The Lake is very valuable for breeding both fish and 'fowl. J won’t say thousands, but I am safe in saying hundreds of ducks are brad around it every year, both teal and gray duck ; and for nine years back I think Inm safe, to say there has been one clutch of swans hatched and brought up every year during that time. Now, as there is not such another lake in Southland, it would be very valuable as a place of recreation for tourists or townspeople. I suppose there in little use of my saying any more at present iu favor of Lake George ; still, I will do what I can to protect it, and very so«n it will be better known, then its own qualities will protect it.—l am,. &c., SILVESTEE EDWAEDS. ■ ’ Round Hill.
