RIVERTON HARBOR BOARD.

A ,meeting of the Board was held on Monday afternoon. There were present —Capt, Hanl.inaon (chairman), Messrs Daniel, Chapman, Hamilton, and Capt.. Steven. The outward correspondence included letter to the Marine Department, notifying alteration in the export dues on timber to

4d per, 100ft.', woolllld per bale; other goods, 3d per ton. The inward correspondence was unimportant. The Cleric laid upon the table copy o£ leases, duly executed, of portions of the Board’s reserve. Reference was made to members being .disqualified hn ; falling'to attend meetings o| ■ the Board.* p t ' • --i Two tender's were opened Tor 'the IpurcKasb and removal of the old jetty." -That’ or J. The balance-sheet,sduly audited, was laid- on the table, and, oh The motion of MrT)aniel; approved of: ;; Accounts as follows were passed fdr payment: —G-alloway and—Burns; -£4 13s 6d; Reid Bros., £2 5s 2d; Fetched Bros., £1 Is. J. A. Robertson’s account of £2O for surveying the Board’s reserve was objected to, Mr Hamilton stating that the sum agreed upon was £l2, but as some small extras had to he done, he thought £LS would be a fair sum to offer.

Oapt. Tall reported that several exporters had refused to pay export dues, and that the boatmen aud puntpren also refused to pay the annual license. —-On the motion of Mr Hamilton, seconded by Oapt. Steven, it was resolved that defaulters be notified that unless dues were paid within eight idays, proceedings would be taken to compel payment. i The Chairman was authorised to ’endeavor to make arrangements if possible with the Collector of Customs not to grant clearances to vessels until wharfage dues were paid. With regard to the reserve, Mr Hamilton thought another effort ’should be made to induce the Q-overa-|ment to grant an exchange of land for the useless portion of +he endowment on Waimatuku Flat. If they failed sin that, it would be better to lease the unlet portion to anyone who would even pay the rates on the land. He did not despair but that the Government would yet see the justice of the claim, which was only, a demand for what the Board formerly possessed but had been robbed of.

Mr Daniel concurred, and moved to the effect that the Chairman write to the Government, asking their favorable consideration to the proposal. This was agreed to, and the Board adjourned.
