At an inquest to-day on recent fire at Mrs Alexander’s boarding house an> open verdict was returned Evidence was given that the building and furniture were considerably over insured. The Coroner spoke strongly on the conduct of insurance companies in over insuring properties, stigmatiug same as a temptation to arson. Napieb, May 23. William Collins, groom, attempted suicide this morning. He placed the muzzle of a gun under his chin and pulled the trigger. The charge- blew 'both jaws, tongue, and nose- completely away, but the brain was not injured. The doctors here entertain hopes of his recovery. Colliua has been drinking hard lately. Dunedin,.
