PUBLIC NUISANCES.

TO THE EDITOB. g lHj —There has been an outcry lately against the “ yellow fever” or Chinese nuisance, and a, considerable amount of in iiguation has justly been expressed at their dirty habiis. _ There is a nuisance, however, of which our am folk are the cause that requires drawing attention to. I refer to the fact of dead animals being allowed lb lie in public places and pollute the air with noisome smells. Nog so very long ago the carcase of a cow was allowed to be exposed near the Hospital, and many will recollect the lively smell that pervaded the" locality for many days in consequence. • Passing along the railway line in Bath Boad the other day I observed the putrid remaii s of a dead cow, on which a number of mongrellooking curs were feeding, and overhead, watch* ing their opportunity, wore several hawks and other tavenous birds. I consider tho owner of sucl’. animals should be lined heavily for not burring them or depositing them in a place whe •. they are nut likely to become a nuisance to the public. In cases where the owners are not known, the Corporation, whether the animal is in Iho town or on the boundary thereof, should undertake the removal or burying of the, aid mal. Tito Town Council .would only be doing their duty if! they in future were more-Stringent in such mat* ters. —I am, &i'., Anti-Smeli,,' KLvertou, 20th April, 1880.
