The only outward correspondence was a telegram to the Hon. the Minister of Public Works with regard to providing roads in lieu of those taken for railway purposes. Eo reply had been received to that telegram. THE "no AN. The manager of the Eiverton branch of the National Bank wrote, stating that a client was willing to take up half (L 750) the proposed loan at 90 on the conditions named. The Town Clerk stated that if that offer was accepted it was probable the balance would be taken up on the same terms. On the motion of Cr. Horr, seconded by Cr. Daniel, it was resolved—That the offer be accepted, clear of all commission. ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed for payment:—D. M'lntosh, L 32 8s ; E. Hopgood, L 5 4s fid; J. Daniel seconded —That thistles in formed streets be cut down by surfacemen. —Carried. RESERVES. Cr. Daniel enquired whether steps had been taken to have the reserves in South Eiverton Crown granted. He asked the question because, while in Wellington recently, no trace of the reserve having been granted could be found. He thought it of great importance that the matter should be enquired into. _ All the reserves in town were in an unsatisfactory condition. He moved —That the Mayor place himself in communication with the proper authorities with regard to the matter. Seconded by Cr. Simpson, and carried. HERRING FOOTPATHS.

Mr James Eeid, having received permission, said he appeared as a delegate on behalf of property-holders in Havelock street, who wished to objest to footpath being kerbed there. There was no necessity for kerbing that street at present. It appeared that a motion was arrived at last meeting of Council |that Palmerston and Havelock streets be kerbed. Tenders had been called for the work in Palmerston street, but the Public Works Committee did not call for tenders for the Havelock street contract, in consequence of objections by property holders there. A considerable amount of discussion followed after Mr Eeid addressed the Council. Cr. Horr ultimately gave notice that he would move at next iheeting —That Havelock street be not kerbed. _ [The Mayor here entered and took his seat.] CEMBTEET COMMITTEE. Cr. Mills moved—That Crs. Locke and Simpson be appointed a Cemetery Committee. The Mayor said that there would be a considerable amount of work to do in connection with the Council taking over the management of the Cemetery, and he hoped the Committee just appointed would take the matter energetically in hand. Cr. Locke moved an amendment — That the whole of the Council bo a Cemetery Committee. Cr. Simpson seconded. The motion was carried, Cr. Mills moved—That Cemetery accounts be kept separate from municipal accounts.—Seconded by Cr. Daniel, and carried. HABBOtTE BOARD. It being necessary to elect three members of Harbor Board not later than 10th inst., it was resolved to hold the regular meeting of the Council on tnat date instead of 11th inst. COMMUNICATION- WITH DUNEDIN. The Mayor said, seeing that communication by rail was now established between Dunedin and Invercargill, he thought an effort should be made to get a mail despatched from Eiverton at 6 a.m. to meet the express train at Invercargill at 9.30 a.m. By that means letters would reach Dunedin in one day. They should also endeavour to get a mail despatched for Eiverton upon arrival at Invercargill of the afternoon express from Dunedin. If a petition was got up he thought the postal authorities would grant the request.

It was resolved on the motion of Cr. Daniel, seconded by Cr. Locke —That this Council considers that a morning mail should leave Eiverton at six o’clock to meet the express train from Invercargill to Dunedin; also that an evening mail leave Invercargill for Eiverton on arrival of afternoon train from Dunedin ; and that a petition be got up with a view of getting jftbat motion carried into effect. PASSENGER STATION. Cr. Mills again referred to the intention of the authorities to erect a fifthclass passenger station at Eiverton. He thought they should put upon record their protest against such an insult to the place. He moved —That the Mayor telegraph to the Minister of Public Works, pointing out the total inadequacy of the station to the importance of the town. Seconded by Cr. Locke, and carried. TENDERS. Two tenders were received for formation and gravelling in Palmerston street. D. M'lntosh’s tender was accepted at ■L2 5s per chain for kerbing; earthwork, Is 3d per yard; highland j gravel, Is 9d per yard ; beach do, Is fid per yard. The Council then adjourned.
