Sire, Young Prince of Wales, imported by Henry Hill, Esq., from the celebrated stud ot Lawrence Drew, Esq., Hamilton, Scotland; y Old Prince of Wales, by General, by Sir Walter Scott, by Old Clyde, by Scotchman, by CbamPl °Dam, Maggie, bred by Mr Hannah, by that celebrated sire Southorne; by Thane of Clyce (imported). This grand and fashionable sire needs no comment, being so well known to breeders in Southland and Otago. Maggie has gained the following prizes at the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Society s Shows Ist as a yearling in 1870,15 tas a two-year old in 1871,15 tas a three-year old in 1872, and competed when a three-year old amongst the yeld mares all ages, tailing 2nd prize, being beaten only by Mr Sutton’s celebrated prize mare Diamond, thus showing Pride of Southland to be one of the grandest bred colts in the Colonies. Peide of Southland is a beautiful dark bay, with black points, three years old, stands 16| hands high, of fine hone and substance, and docile temper. He gained Ist prize as a two-year-old at tbe Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Shows, and Ist among the three-year-olds, and 2nd against all comers and all ages, beating the imported sire Barron of Clyde, Duke of Athol, and others. A good, substantially fenced and well watered Paddock of 200 acres provided at Lancefield, free of charge, for mares comingjfrom a distance, for the season ending Ist February, 1879. Gained the first prize at the Agricultural Show at Invercargill in the year 1873 as the best two-year-old colt. In the year 1875 lie gained the premium of 30 sovs. at Riverton Walking Show. In the same year second prize at Invercargill. In 1876, the second prize at Invercargill. In 1877, he gained he premium of 70 sovs. and silver medal at Tapanui Walking Show. Also, the same year, the silver medal (Ist prize) at the Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s Show, Tapanm. Dam, Tullop, one of the finest marcs of New South Wales, imported thence to Southland by the late Captain Howell. Tullop was the another of the famed racehorse Sailor, to whom, on the dam’s side, therefore, His Excellency is brother. His Excellency is a dark chestnut, is strongly and symmetrically built, and better adapted for producing weight-carrying hacks than any animal shown this year.
