A French agricultural paper announces the discovery of an extremely simple and cheap means to prevent houses from being struck by lightning. This consists merely of bundles of straw attached to sticks or broom handles,- and, placed t oa the roofs of bouses in an upright position. The first trial of the simple apparatus was made at Tarbea (Haute's Pyrenees) by some intelligent agriculturists, and results were so satisfactory that soon I after eighteen Communes of the Tarbea district provided all their houses with these bundles of straw, and there have been no accidents from lightning since itt the district.
