THE LORD’S PRAYER.
The following is the Lord’s Prayer in the English of former times, and shows how the language has changed: A.D. 1258. Eader ure in heune, haleweide beeth thi ueune, cumen thi kuneriche, the wille beoth idou in heune and in. The euryche dawe bried gif ous thilk dawe. And worzif ures dettes as vi Vorzifen Ure dettoures. And leue ous nought into temptation, bot beylyor of uvel.—Amen, A.D. 1300. Eadir our in heaven, Halewyd by thi name, thi kingdom come. Thi.wille be done as iu heaven and in erthe. Our urche dayes bred give us to-day. And forgive us cure dettes, as wo forgive cure dettoures. And ledo us not into temptation ; bote delyvere us of yuel. —Amea. A.D. 1582. Our father which art in hauen, sanctified be thy name. Let thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as iu heauen iu earth also. Giou vs to-day our super substantial bread. And ledo vs not into temptation, but deliuer vs from evil.— Amen. A.D. 1611. Our Eather which art iu heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdorae come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in hcauon, GHue this day our dayly bread. And forgiue vs our debts as wo forgiue our debtors. And lede vs not into temptation, but deliuer us from euil, Eor thine is the kingdome, and the power and the glory for euer.—Amen.
