Commenting on the sale of adulterated food in Auckland, the Herald says: — ‘A recent raid upon our milkmen by the police showed, according to the tests mad a by the Provincial Analyst, that the ‘ pure milk’ sold by the vendors was adulterated by ‘pure water’ varying to the extent of from 10 to 40 per cent.” It then cites the result of examinations in Glasgow, to show the extent of adulteration there, which is to the effect that at one establishment no less than 9201bs of ‘putrid matter and rancid machine grease’ is daily * converted’ into 4 butter with a stubble grass smell,’ —the greater portion of which is consumed not by the poorer bub by the middle classes. \
