TENDERS A FARCE

TO THK EDITOR. Sir —Will you allow me to call the attention of those who. pay rates levied by the Aparima Rial Board to. the following;--Tenders were called for tpo formation of a road from Mr Mackintosh’s house to that gentleman’s woolshei. Seven tenders were sent in. The two lowest were £BIO and £325. The second lowest was accepted. . . . H >w, sir, I ask you is this fair dealing ? The lowest ten lonr was prepare I to comply with'the usual conditions laid down bv the Ut>a I Board, and in tli< interests of the ratepayers I think his offer should have been accented. —I am, &c.. ‘ . , "7 Ottsrr. Oreti, 23rd October, 1874.

[Wo are afraid our correspondent is in. error about seven tenders being sent in for the akottenamed work, as oar-repsr'.or was present at the meeting of the Board when the tenders wepo opened, and only heard six read. Wo fcuiut before making a charge of fcnis nature the writer should be fully certain whether the ten* def reached the Clerk of the Board iu time, or if it was receiveL at all. We are compelled to omit a portion of the letter, which is of too^ personal a character for insertion. -Ee.]
