SHOTOYER TERRACE GOLD MINING CO., LIMITED.

The following report from this company’s manager at the works has been handed to us tor publication : Shotover Terrace 00., June 1,1874. To the Directors, Dunedin. Gentlemen, —Since the finishing of the lay ing down your plant for working the mine, I have had the control of management, and beyond a small portion of ground opened in bringing water through the workings, the whole of the operations have been confined to ground formerly worked, and which at first gave promise of profitable results ; but after blocking across the former faces in shallow ground, it

has been found necessary to cease working these particular portions of the mine, and more confine the operations to the deep lead, which is about six feet below the level of the tunnel. This is now being done, and the water drained by syphon ; and until this work is completed the general washing will be discontinued. This work will occupy from three to five weeks, which will depend on the width of lead to be driven across.

The prospects on the sideling reef, going down in this ground, are very good, with very heavy wash. At the same time the drives are being pushed through Eager’s portion of the claim, where we expect again to find the upper part of the said deep lead which has hitherto been so profitable. Although the claim has not turned out immediate results, as I had anticipated, still I see no reason to fear of future results, as nearly two-thirds of the claim remain yet to be proved.—l am, &c., Fred. Evans.

Dunedin, June 3, 1874, To the Directors Shotover Terrace

Company. Gentlemen, —Since writing my report of yesterday I am in the receipt of late intelligence from the mine, stating that the drive in deep ground has been bottomed with good prospe ts. The well for sjphon was being sunk, .and by this time the driving would be going on through the main lead, which, from past experience, we are entitled to assume will be profitable ground. As I shall be on the ground on Monday next, I hope to send satisfactory intelligence. —I am, &c., (Signed) Fred. Evans.
