NEW YEAR’S SPORTS AT MT, LINTON STATION.
The following list of sports were held at Mt, Linton station (Messrs. Campbell and Clark’s), on New Year’s day, The employes of the sur? rounding stations were kindly invited to participate in the day’s amusements. The weather waa everything that could be desired. All hands thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and expressed themselves highly satisfied with the awards of the umpire, Mr. Clark. The thanks of the men are also due to Mrs. Clark for the liberal supply of refreshments provided by her, and which contributed in a great measure to the success of tho day’s festivities. At the conclusion of the games, the men, after referring the trouble of organising the sports by Mr. Clark, called for three cheers for their employer, which was duly acknowledged. Hop, step, and leap—Four entries : Ist prize, 12s. 6c1., N. M'Leod (33ft. 6in.) ; 2nd do., 7s. 6d.. T. Hammond (33ft. 3in.) Sack race—Six entries: Ist prize, 10s., D. M'Leod; 2nd do., 55., N. M'Leod. Eunning high leap—Five entries: Ist prize, 12s. Gd., J. Hammond (4ft. Giin.) ; 2nd do., 7s. 6d., N. M'Leod.
Three-legged race—Four entries: Ist prize, 10s., N. and D. M'Leod; 2nd do., 55., M. Lyon and J. Hart.
Highland Eeel —Eight entries : Ist prize, 10s., D. Ferguson ; W. Daniels and W. Davis equal, ss. each.
Hornpipe—Five entries : Ist prize, 10s., W. Nicols; 2nd do., 55., D. Hunter. 200 yards hurdle race, six hurdles—lo entries ; (Prizes presented by Mr. J. Seehof, Riverton) Ist prize, gold locket, N. M‘Leod ; 2nd do., silk scarf, Q-. Thomas. Vaulting with pole—Three entries : Ist prize, £l, D. M‘Leod (7£t. din.); 2nd do., 10s., W. Daniels. Bagpipe music—Two entries : Ist prize, 10s., D.
