Women Work Well.
“I know of no country where the women do more work than in New Zealand,” declared Dr. Guy H. Scholefield, chief Parliamentary librarian, when addressing a travelogue to the Palmerston North Rotary Club. He was referring to the plentitude of native labour in South Africa, which made life very much easier for the women of the white community. “They are much better off in that regard than the women of New Zealand,” he declared, “but whether they are any better for it is another matter.”
