The Gold Standard.
Gold is back in circulation in America—at least as far as cosmetics are concerned! Gold-flecked evening coiffures . . . golden-glow face powder . . . gold or silver mascara to tip the ends of the lashes for evening . . . irridescent eye shadows lightly sprinkled with specks of gold or silver . . . even cold cream, which contains tiny, imperceptible particles of pure gold, have appeared in New York.
Police “Adopt” Children. Port of London police, noted for their work for dockland’s poor children, “adopted” forty youngsters for the recent holidays. The children, whose fathers are unemployed seamen and dockers, lived in the homes of the policemen. They shared the gifts of the children in the house, and were treated as members of the family. Among them were children whose fathers lost their lices in the Blairgowrie disaster. They stayed with the policemen’s families until the schools reopened.
