NEW FOUR-POWER PACT.
A pact of non-aggression, somewhat similar to the. Balkan Pact, is to be signed in the near future by Turkey, Persia, Afghanistan, and Iraq, states a contemporary newspaper. The draft has already been initialled in Geneva, and the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the four countries will meet for the signature at a place to be chosen, probably Baghdad. The Angora correspondent of the London Times describes the pact as the outcome of many years of patient and systematic diplomacy on the part of Turkey, which under the republic has made constant efforts to adjust frontier disputes and settle other questions outstanding between the four countries. A common religion has undoubtedly played an important part, in the rapprochement, but the main factor which has brought them together is the tendency towards modernisation which originated in Turkey. The pact is considered likely to lead to a common policy in international affairs, and closer economic relations between the four countries to which the building of Turkish railways towards the Persian frontier will greatly contribute.
