« HATUMA BRANCH MEETS INTERESTING COMPETITIONS The February meeting of the Hatuma Women’s Institute was held in the Parish Hall last Friday, Miss E. Allan presiding over an excellent attendance of members and -mix-ois. The meeting opened with one minute silence in sympathy with, th© Royal family, then followed the Aspirations. Nominations were received for Federation officers and for the committee for the ensuing year. The president congratulated the members on having secured the Ormond Shield at the rbcent Waipukurau A. and P. Show. / It was decided to hold a “flag 500” evening in aid of Institute funds on March 6. After the routine business bad. been disposed of the meeting washanded over to the members, Mrs P. A. Riddle acting as president. A feature of the enjoyable programme arranged was the mock court, several committee members being fined for their misdeeds. The winners of the various competitions were: String competition—* Miss Edgar. Local people—Mrs Cc-t--terilll Shoe guessing—Miss M. Simmons. At the conclusion Miss Allan thanked members for providing such an entertaining programme. The competitions for the month resulted as follow: —Bottle fruit: Mrs G. Kennedy 1, Mrs Howaid 2, Miss H. Nicholls 3. prettiest cosy: Miss Simmons 1, Mrs Collins 2. The beautiful flowers brought in by the gardening circle were afterwards sent to the Sanatorium. Three new members were enrolled.
