ITALIAN DISASTER
EARTHQUAKES AND FLOOD
MANY LANDSLIDES OCCUR
ROME, Nov. 24.
It is officially announced that 72 perished in a storm which swept Sicily and southern Italy, including Naples. There was much damage there and also in the Messina district, where many landslides occurred following torrential rain for sesven consecutive hours.
A family of six were drowned at Mammola, when their house was washed away in a torrent. Messina itself is six feet under water in some pg,rts.
Two slight earthquakes were also felt.
Rescurers used rafts to reach families stranded on the upper floors of buildings. Telephone and telegraph lines and roads are destroyed over-a large area.
