The theatre was (packed to the doors dong before the meeting started, ainid a section of the audience persisted in interjecting in spite of an appeal by the Mayor, Mr T. W. SattieTtihwaite, far a fair hearing. The Mayor was howled down, and Mi’ Forbes smilingly continued in spirited fashion. At times the interjectiioins came so fast that the Prime Minister could scarcely be heard. He also replied to Mr Hislop’s innuendos regarding juggling with the public accounfe and remarked, “That’s not cricket, and Joe Savage would not say it, anyhow.” (Applause).

Mr Forbes referred to the speech made by Mr J. W. Munro in Dunedin, fn which Mr Munro is reported to have said that Labour had its guns ready to deal with “.moneyed interests.’’

Mr Forbes said, he had read in the papers that Mr Savage “will be returned with 44 Labour men,” but it was evident that when Jim Mnnro; who was regarded as one of the more
