Mr and Mrs G. E. Harvey, Frankton .Junction, have been visiting WaiIpukurau as the guests of Mr and Mrs H. De Lacey, Takapau Road.
Mirs Russell Grace, Mrs Young, Wanganui, and Miss C. Wilson, Bulls, win be the guests of Miss Johnstone, Motuotaraia, ’ for the Waipukurau ladies’ golf tournament.
The engagement is announced of Ngaire Veronica, only daughter of Mrs .and the late Mr E. G. Ratnbone, Glenalvon, ” Tikokino, to Daniel, second son of Mr and the late Mrs J. : Butler, Argyll. I The death occurred at Gore yesterI day of Mrs James Hargest, mother of JMr J. Hargest, M.P. She was born j in Wales and came to New Zealand m j 1879 and had resided in, the Gore disi trict ever since. I Mr Frank Armstrong, of Akitio, station, has found it necessary to enter hospital in Hastings owing to internal trouble. Mr Armstrong has not been in the best of health for some' time.
Advice has been received in Masj terton that Mr R. M. Barrer, M.Sc., .son of Mr and Mrs T. R. Barrer, of Masterton, has taken the degree of doctor of philosophy at Cambridge University. Mr Barrer, who is an expupil of the Wairarapa High School, graduated master of science with first-class honours at Canterbury College in 1931. In the same year he was first nominee of Canterbury College for the Rhodes scholarship, but was unsuccessful. Mr Barrer left for Cambridge in September, 1932.
