BOOKMAKING TO STOP MAGISTRATE’S ACTION (Per Press Association). WHANGAREI, Last Night. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day Charles Schon/ and Arthur Lambess were each fined £75 for permitting their premises to be used as common gaming houses. Each was given 14 days in which to pay his fine. The Magistrate, Mr GF. N. Morris, S.M., when inflicting the fines, said: (f I am here to stop the practice, however impossible it may seem. If a man is foolish enough to go on bookmaking after having been heavily fined, his fine will he increased everv time he
appears until the practice stops.’’
