“ABUSED TRUST”

Watchman on Vessel

BROACHED THE CARGO

MAGISTRATE’S COMMENT

(Per Press Association) WELLINGTON. This Day.

For the theft of shoes and toothbrushes from the vessel on which he had been employed as a watchman in port, Robert Craig Boyd Taylor, aged 21, seaman, was sentenced to three months’ gaol by Mr. Mosley, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. The police stated that accused admitted having broached the cargo on the Rangitane at Auckland. “I cannot possibly overlook an

offence of this nature, where a man placed in a position of trust deliberately abuses it, and encourages others to abuse it too,” said the Magistrate.
