GISBORNE SEAT

MR W. S. LYSNAR TO STAND

POSSIBLY LIEUT. GAM BRILL

Interviewed by a “Donrnion” repre-

sentative yesterday, Air W. S. Lysnar

announced his intention of standing for Gisborne seat at the forthcoming general < lection. He will start his electioneering campaign shortly. Air Lysnar declined to state his views on political problems, but stated that he regarded the efforts of the Government as being in the nature of palliative legislation rather than remedial. He v/is quite non-committal regarding the interests or party for which he would stand. Mr D. W. Coleman, the sitting member for Gisborne, stated this evening that he would definitely be a candidate in the Labour interests.

A representative deputation waited on Afr R. F. Gambrill some time ago and asked him to allow himself to be nominated as a candidate for the Gisborne seat. Mr Gambrill in an interview with a "Dominion” representative said: "I told that deputation that I would consider the matter, and at the moment I am not prepared to make any statement for publication.”

Mir Gambrill, who is a well-known, barrister, is president of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, and chairman of the No. 4 Licensing Authority. He saw active service during the war, and held the rank of colonel.

INDEPENDENT ’ S CANDIDATURE The most enthusiasTlc and possibly the largest committee meeting ever held in Palmerston North greeted Air Alansford at the Palmerston North Opera House supper room last evening, there being over 150 electors present and taxing the accommodation of the supper"room to its utmost. There were over twenty standing wherever they could find room. Owing to the large number present and the larger number expected at the next meetmg, It was decided to engage the Municipal Hall.
