POISONING HOAX
A POSTED CAKE FOUND TO BE QUITE PURE (Per Press Association) DUNEDIN, Last Night. The elements of another poisoning mystery surrounded the posting to a Strath Taieri girl recently of a packet of cake. This girl, who had been reading recent similar cases, became alarmed, sending the cake to Dunedin for analysis and informing the police. The analysis showed that the cake was quite pure, and the police traced the parcel back to the recipient's sister who had been playing a practical joke, knowing her susceptibility. However, the hoax has cost the country some money in analyst’s fees and the despatch of a detective.
