A collection of queer tobacco pipes attracted a crowd of curio dealers and others to a famous London Auction. Mailt not’ long since. The specimens submitted included pipes fashioned by Indians from lobster-claws, pipes made by Eskimos from walrus tusks, pipes (made by South Sea Islanders from gorgeous coloured shells, and. pipes of ancient Chinese workmanship made from the thigh-bones of children'; Bidding was brisk and satisfactory prices were realised. Pipes such as these are interesting enough to look at when displayed in a glass case, but what the smoker wants for every-diay use is a good, serviceable briar, loaded with “toasted” for choice, either Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead), or Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog).
