# LOVELOCK DEFEATED SPRINT UNDULY DELAYED By Telegraph —Copyright. -Press jlsbu. LONDON, July 14. There was a sensational result in the mile at the Amateur Athletic championships, White City, S. C. Wooderson (Blackheath Harriers) defeating J. E. Lovelock in. 4min. 17 2-5 secs. Lovelock’s time was 4min. 18 2-ssecs.
Lovelock was well placed half-way. Wooderson aitl the bell dashed out. Lovelock delayed his sprint until the last bend and failed to make an impression. He wias beaten by three yards, greatly disappointing the large crowd.
Sweeney, Empire 100 yards champion, won the 100 yards in 10 l-ssecs. Osendarp (Holland) was second and Sir (Hungary), the holder, third. Osendarp won the 220 yards in 22 l-ssecs. Sweeney was second. Findlay won the 120 yards hurdles in 15secs. This was his fourth consecutive victory, a feat not achieved in 40 vears.
A heat wtive caused havoc among the 41 runners in the marathon from Windsor to White City. The number dwindled to less than a dozen in the last stages. The leaders walked at intervals over the last three miles. A J. Norris (Polytechnic) won, his time being 3 hours 2 minutes 57 4-5 seconds. Kyriakides (Cyprus) was second, 3 hours 3 minutes 20 seconds.
Roberts (Salford) won the quarter mile* in 49 seconds.
