IN A BATH TUB

DESERTING SEAMAN SETS SAIL FOR GOLD FIELDS By Telegraph—Copyright—Press As.-n. MELBOURNE, July 14. A message received, from Thursday Island states that /Bertie Hjelstnom, a 21-year-old apprentice, deserted the barque C. B. Pedersen, and is now bobbing about somewhere in Torres Strait in an old wooden bath tub, with an improvised sail, on his way to New Guinea. Hjelstrom, who was lured by tales of the gold to be won in New Guinea, 50 miles aiway, took only a small supply of water, food and clothes.
