Cost of Living in Australia
A statement that on his recent visit to Australia he had found the cost of living to be 25 to 35 per cent higher than in New Zealand was made by the Hon. E. R. Davies, M.L.C., speaking at a luncheon of the Auckland Travel Club. Milk cost 8d per-quart and butter 1/4 to 1/5 per lb., he said. Although flour was much cheaper in Australia, bread was about the same price as in New Zealand, while sugar was double the local price. Rents also w r ere very high.
