ROADS AND BRIDGES
IN WAIPAWA COUNTY ENGINEER’S REPORT The engineer (Mr. R. W. Bond) submitted the following report to the Waipawa County Council at its meeting to-day: — Waipawa Riding.—Fifty yards of river shingle have been used repairing Te Onepu Road. Ten 18-inch pipes have been used renewing culvert on Homewood Road. A new 3-ft.
pipe culvert is- required on Racecourse Road. W T dtertables are being cleaned out on Tamumu Road. Repairs are required to bridge on Maraekakaho Road by Gwavas. Repairs have been done to culvert at Foulds’ Cutting Grading in metal and general maintenance have been carried out in the riding. Onga Riding.— Fairhurst Bros, have completed the protection work at Fletcher's Crossing bridge. The water-race crossing on grass road requires a culvert and notification has been forwarded to the water-race committee. The bridge by Gunson’s, Mill Road, has collapsed. A temporary low-level bridge has been put in to take the traffic. Fairhurst Bros.
are making preparations to reconstruct the bridge on Pettit's Valley Road. Thirty yards metal have been used on the Waipawa-Onga Road. Repairs have® been done to two bridges at Carson's Road, Wakarara. Part of the fence has been erected at Hobin's bridge, also decking of bridge repaired. Clinton Riding.—The horse team is engaged in this riding, clearing water-tables and cutting grass from metal edges. The contractor for the culvert at Lowe's woolshed has not yet taken up his contract. General maintenance has been carried out. Five hundred yards of metal are required on Black’s and and Makaretu Roads.
Takapau Riding.— The crushing plant has crushed and delivered on various roads 871 cubic yards of metal during the month. The strengthening of foundations on Takapau Road is complete and a start will be made this month with the sealing of forty chains of this road, as soon as the fine screenings are prepared. Grading in metal and general maintenance have been carried out. General. — Fourteen unemployed are engaged in widening roads in the county. Notices have been put up at various bridges, notifying the conditions of same. Three hundred yards of metal are required between the Waipukurau road and the top of McIntyre’s Hill.
