The abundance of feed throughout the district has helped to increase the demand for station cattle, and auctioneers therefore held a cattle fair to-day to meet farmers’ requirements. The Jarge entry of well over 3000 head of cattle showed generally good condition, though some pens were of scrag- ■ gy appearance. The demand for young’ cattle was firm, with good prices throughout. Older cattle were not so eagerly sought, only really good quality fetching relatively high prices. P.A.’s were particularly sought, with a steady and firm market also for Shorthorns, extra good qquality bullocks going to over £6. The market for • the Jersey breed was not so good, weaner and eighteen-months heifers finding the market very dull. There was a fairly heavy yarding of fat store sheep, which maintain good, j rates. Choice fat cattle sold well, but there were practically no dairy cattle offered.
