WAIPUKURAU RACES

Very Successful Meeting

INCREASED “TOTE” TAKINGS »

CUP GOES TO GAINSFID

With perfect weather and a large holiday crowd, the Waipukurau Jockey Club’s autumn meeting, held yesterday, was a great succ-ss. The totalisator handled £6736 10s for the day, as against £6295 10s for the same day last year, 'an increase of £441.

The track was in exceptionally good order 1 after rain, and the beautiful grounds looked at their best. Close finishes in the majority of events provided an interesting day’s sport, and spoke well for the work of the handicapper, Mr H. Coyle. The Starting by Mr E. Harley, was excellent, and Mr W. P. Russell carried out his difficult task as judge with every satisfaction.

In memory of the late Mr S. F. Brandon, a prominent supporter of the club for many years, able riders in the first race wore black armbands. Mr W. Wilson had a well-earned win with Gainsfid in the Waipukurau Cup, and the trophy was presented on the lawn by the president of the club, My P. F. Wall, who warmly congratulated the owner, trainer, and rider. The Waipukurau Town Band was in attendance, and, under the baton of Mr E. Malkin, provided an enjoyable programme. The officials, under the able guidance of the secretary (Mr W. G. Nightingale) carried out their work admirably. MAIDEN RACE Of £6O; 6 furlongs. 3 Mr T. A. Hopkins’ ch.g.
