WOMAN STABBED

ATTACKED IN LONELY SPOT

Attacked on a lonely track across the Town Belt this evening, Mrs. D, Heimdal, aged 29, of Finnimore Terrace, Vogeltown, was stabbed in several places. Later a man went to the Taranaki Street police station, and it is i|pderstood that he said he had stabbed the woman. .

Mrs. Heimdal, who is a middleaged woman, had been doWn to the Levin Memorial Home, in Britomart Street, Berhampore, where her two youngest children live, and was returning home. The locality where the attack was made is a track along the grass-covered hillside with scattered bushes, gorse and manuka, and the houses are 200 yards or so apart. Mrs. Heimdal was gashed in the neck and received wounds in the right breast, abdomen and left hand. She succeeded in staggering home. Other inmates of the, house obtained medical assistance. She was admitted to hospital. Her condition is not serious.

ACCUSED IN COURT I Per Press WELLINGTON, This Day. John Conway Murphy, labourer, aged 43, arrested last night after Mrs. Heimdal was assaulted in the Town Belt, was remanded at the Magistrate’s Court to-day on a charge of attempted niui’der. He was not represented by counsel, Mrs. Heimdal is still in hospital and her condition is report* ed to be not serious,
