Radio Affairs

Two weeks ago, Mr Hannah, radio inspector at Napier, together with a representative of the Central Hawke’s Bay Power Board spent a few days in the district finding electric faults which were seriously affecting radio reception. Conditions, although improved slightly, are still very bad, so that listening-in here is a pain instead of a pleasure. It is hoped that the authorities will soon see their way clear to give us further attention so that the sets may be of use, especially after 7 p.m. On Saturday night the power leak was so bad that 2YA was the only station to be heard with any clarity and it was received with a loud accompaniment of noise like machinegun fire. Deer Stalkers One of the parties which spent the holidays in the Ruahine ranges returned. on Monday. They report fairly good sport but say that activities were seriously hampered by fog which overhung the mountains until Monday morning. Hall Committee Dance

A very large crowd of merry-mak-ers attended the dance held in the Onga Onga Public Hall on Easter Monday night under the auspices of the Hall Committee, for the purpose of augmenting hall funds. The evening left nothing to be desired from a weather point of view, and as the committee had spared no effort, all those present spent a most enjoyable time dancing to music supplied by Te Tan’s Orchestra. An excellent supper was provided by a ladies’ committee, dancing continuing until 2 a.m. The hall funds should benefit considerably.
