EMPIRE CRICKET
A TOURNEY PROPOSAL NEW ZEALAND INCLUDED LONDON, August 17. The “Daily Mirror” says that it has the highest authority for stating that plans are already being considered for holding an Empire cricket tournament in 1936 between England, Australia, South Africa. West Indies and New Zealand. It has been suggested that all the countries play each other twice, each game being played to a finish and points being awarded in a. similar system to that used in the county championship, which would be suspended for one season. A generous proportion of the proceeds would be paid to the various counties, enabling them to pay professionals to continue the championships the following year. The whole project is to he discussed at the Imperial cricket conference. The "Mirror” adds that some drastic step is needed if the game is to retain its traditional’ position in the life of the nation.
