FRENCH SUCCESS
MOROCCAN CAMPAIGN 3500 BERBERS SURRENDERED LONDON, August 16. Mr Ward Price, correspondent with the French army in Morocco, declares that the French are hindered by Berber sharpshooters concealed in mountain caves, the storming of which would result in five days’ continuous fighting. The French have now reached steep hills commanding the lower slopes of Mount Badou, the formidable last stronghold of the Berbers. An aeroplane reports a concentration of Berbers around the wells. Each tribe fights’desperately under a blazing sun to defend its own little tract of barren country and scrubby herds. Three thousand five hundred Berbers have surrendered. The men are fierce and the women swarthy, handsome and tattooed. They have been placed in a concentration camp.
