MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS SEVERAL CONTESTS ASSURED In connection with the municipal elections to be held on May 3, and for which nominations close at noon to-morrow, Messrs. W. A. Chambers and I. W. N. Mackie, both members of the retiring Borough Council, the former also being an ex-mayor, have been nominated for the Mayoral office. Mr. R. McLean, the retiring mayor, as already announced, is not a contestant; Fox’ the Council (six required) Messrs. R. W. Carpenter (at present a councillor), J. L. Brathwaite, H. Martin, and B. L. Wallis have lodged nominations. Two other candidates are spoken of, with a possibility of four. For the Waipawa Hospital Board, Mr. B. G. Atkins has been nominated for re-election as the borough representative and Mr. R. McLean is the only nominee to date for re-election to the Napier Harbour Board. An"election is assured for the Central Hawke’s Bay Power Board, as Mr. John Butler has been nominated and Mr. A. C. Holms, the sitting member, as already announced, is offering to serve for a further term.
