Match Against N.S.W.

WYATT’S <59 HEADS SCORES

FINGLETON GOES FOR SEVEN

By Telegraph—Copyright —Press Assn.

SYDNEY, January 27.

The England versus New South Wales match was continued in very sultry weather. The wicket was affected by the rain followed by hot sun.

Hammond and Verity dismissed the remaining five New South Wales batsmen for the addition of only 11 runs. Hammond took three for three this morning, and Verity two tor eight. Both made the ball lift awkwardly from the pitch. The innings lasted 195 minutes. Rowe batted for 92 minutes and hit five boundaries.

Wyatt and the Nawab of Pataudi opened for England, and there was an early thrill for the spectators when the Nawab of Pataudi was out in his second over, caught at short line-leg where Love and Hill also lost their wickets. Wyatt opened his shoulders and executed some forceful cover drives to the fence, but at 35 lost Hammond who was well caught in the outfield. Howell then had two for 12.

The wicket had improved after lunch and Wyatt and Verity carried the score along at a steady rate, adding 50 in 58 minutes. Wyatt, who was subdued facing Howell and Hill, reached the half century in 95 minutes. The third wicket fell at. 106, when Verity was also caught at short fine-leg. He had shown the strokes of a class batsman. Wyatt soon followed, being out in his usual fashion leg before. Then without addition to the total, Chilvers uprooted Ames’ middle stump. In a partnership of 2 3 minutes Leyland and Brown added 45. Both pulled Chilvers for lofty sixers, and both were taken on the fence attempting another such hit. Both hit four fours and a six. The tail-enders of the team failed, and the side was out after 165 minutes' batting. The fielding of the New South Wales team was definitely superior to that of England's. Fingleton again failed to get going, but Brown was batting nicely when stumps were drawn. The attendance was 832 9. Scores: — ENGLAND
