NEW YORK, May 26.
Fighting vigorously, Mayor James Walker, from a witness stand to-day have his explanation of how he made hundreds of thousands of dollars from stock transactions without putting up a cent, and charged Samuel Scabury with trying to end his political life.
Hundreds of his constituents listened in comparative silence while the head of the largest city in the world detailed his complicated personal finances to the Honstadter Commission, for which Scabury is counsel.
They also heard the Mayor deny that Russell Sherwood, an accountant for whom the committee has searched for months, was his personal financial agent. Walker said he himself had been searching for the missing witness, who was fined 50,000 dollars for contempt of the committee in ignoring d subpoena.'
