RAID ON STORE
Lawlessness At Huntly TWENTY-TWO MEN CHARGED ONLY ONE A COLONIAL (Per Press Association) ■ » HUNTLY, This Day. The Huntly Magistrate’s Court presented a scene of animation when twenty-two men, who allegedly participated in a raid upon the Farmers’ Trading Company’s premises at Huntly on May 19, appeared before Mr. Levien, S.M., charged with the theft of groceries valued at £lO.
Five further men were charged with inciting to lawlessness.
Five of the accused were Maoris, and only one of the others was a Colonial.
The following were charged with theft of groceries valued at £lO, the property of the Farmers’ Trading Co., and with inciting to lawlessness: — David Fuller, Albert Allen, Raymond Richards, Joseph Bincham, Janies Stirling (all miners). The following were charged with theft of groceries only:—Sutherland Peden, Henry Fehsenfeld, John Scott Moodie, Evan David Davies, and Idris Davies (all miners), Robert Kaweroa, Heta Tarawhiti Peter Raumati, Gray Karend, Joseph Berryman, Taiki Whiu, (all labourers), Brynley Kinson, Francis George Stevens, Horatio Swindells, Thomas Morgan (all
miners). Evidence of the store manager was given, detailing the raid on the store. The case is continuing.
