STORTFORD LODGE SALE BEDROCK PRICES FOR BEEF At Stortford Lodge sale yesterday beef undoubtedly struck tho lowest price that has ruled for several decades. This was particularly noticeable for drafts of extra prime heavy cattle sold on account of Messrs T. H. Lowry, Okawa and Williams Bros., Pukehou. Both lines wore too heavy for export, being over the maximum weight of 8801bs. Butchers arc all complaining, that, owing to stress of hard times, the inquiry is for cheaper joints, there being very little demand

for prime cuts. Several pens of unfinished, ox beef were purchased by graziers out of the fat pens. Throe P.A. bullocks sold on account of Mr T. H. Lowry, topped the market at £6 12s Gd. A prime pen of P.A. baby beef was sold on account of Mr H. A. Wall, Maraetotara, at £4. Drafts of bullocks wore sold on account of Messrs T. 11. Lowry, Williams Bros., H. A. Wall, Koreru I Station and a Pukokura client. Drafts of cows and heifers wore sold on account of Messrs ,T. J. Gatonby and Royston Campbell. A larger number of voalers was offered than usual prices being lower than usual rates. Extra prime heavy ox beef realised 13s per lOOlbs., and lighter weights 14s to 15s per hundred. Prime cow and heifer beef ranged in price from 10s to 12s per hundred, and plainer quality at 8s and 9s. BROKERS’ REPORTS Tho Associated Stock Auctioneers report as follows on tho usual weekly Stortford Lodg’d sale;— To the usual attendance of the public a large yarding of cattle and a moderate yarding of sheep were offered. The entry of beef comprised some

prime pens of fat bullocks and cows, which sold very much in buyers’ favour. The entry of store cattle was mostly of cattle from the Wairoa district, and was dull of sale. Sheep in consequence of the drop in fat prices and the unsatisfactory state of the London wool market, showed an easing tendency. Fat sheep.—A big entry for this period of the season of 5300 head. Exporters operated to a very small extent and values were down by about a shilling per head. Extra prime heavy wethers to 23s 9d, prime heavy 16s to 18s; medium weight prime 13s to 15s 6d, ordinary Ils to 12s 6d, light 8s to 11s, show ewes to 20s' lOd, extra prime heavy 13s 6d to 16s, prime heavy 10s to 13s, ,medium weight prime 8s to 9s 6d, ordinary 6s to 7s 6d, light ewes 4s to 5s 6d.

Fat cattle. —An entry of 410 head the bulk indifferent sorts. A few good cattle sold well, others being weaker. Best beef made to 24s per 100 lbs, good 18s 6d uto 225, ordinary 15s to 18s 3d, and rough down to 10s, best steers to £l2 7s 6d, good. £7 to £lO 10s, others £3 10s to £6 10s, best heifers to £8 2s 6d. good £5 to £6 15s, others £3 to £4 15s, best cows to £8 good £4 15s to £6 10s. others £2 10s to £4 10s.

Fat Pigs.—Small entry and better demand. Choppers £2 to £4 6s, baconers 37s 6d to 59s 6d, average price per lb 3sd to 4 l-4d; porkers 22s 6d to 33s 6d, average price per lb 5d to ssu.
