POWER SUPPLY
THE MANAWATU BOARD
ELECTS A NEW CHAIRMAN Expected to provide some lively debate as the prelude to changes in policy, yesterday’s annual meeting of the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board, at which seven new faces were seen, fulfilled predictions. The first clash occurred with the election of a chairman for the ensuing year; but, with a majority of the members pledged to support the claims of the country district and the policy of the Electricity Consumers’ Association, they had no difficulty in getting their nominee, Mr. O. McElroy, elected, replacing Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., who had been chairman of the board since its inception. Realising the hopelessness of the position, supporters of the old regime did not put Mr. Nash forward for re-elec-tion, but they did not let the occasion pass without making comment. Then came the appointment of the executive, and again the new members carried the day, enlarging the committee to a majority of the board and making their own appointments, which comprised representatives from each of the constituent local bodies. —“Manawatu Times.”
