ANNUAL REPORT

AVAIPUKURAU BRANCH.

The AA’aipukurau Branch of the Society for the Health of Women and Children has carried on its work with success during the past year in spite of suffering'like most other branches from the prevailing depression. The Committee thought it wiser not to hold the usual fete in Russell Park, as the preliminary expenses are considerable and the times are not good enough to expect an adequate return. A shop was held instead and realised the sum of £53; the expenses being 7/6. It has been unfortunate that the fete money has not been available for the last three years, as last year it could not be held on account of the earthquake and the year before the proceeds were given to the Plunket and Rest Room Building Committee. This Committee generally gets the bulk of its income from that fete and has had to draw on its reserve fund in the Post Office Savings Bank. Nuse Signail has carried out her duties in her usual efficient manner and deserves the congratulations of the Committee. It is much to be regretted that we are losing the services of our very capable honorary secretary, Airs. J. Buchanan, who has been of the greatest help in our work. Thanks are due to Air. AlcCormick for acting as honorary treasurer; to Mr. Dunn, for auditing our accounts; to the AVaipukurau Dairy Factory for testing milk; to Air. AA r . Harding for firewood; to Mr. Brathwaite for garaging the car at night, and to Air. Boyce for repairs to cycle. Also the Salvation Army for use of Hall. Financial Position The annual balance sheet shows the receipts as £722 16s 3d for the AVaipukurau branch, including £3Ol 14s Id brought forward from 193031 and the expenditure £451 7s lOd, leaving a credit of £271 Ss sd. The excess of assets over liabilities was shown as £32 7 Is 6d. N. AVILSON, President. Nurse’s Annual Report—l 932 The following is a summary of the past year’s work: — Visitors to Rooms —Adults, 1723; babies, 1311; Children, 303; total, 3337. Visits to Homes, 1070. New Cases: 5 o—of0 —of these 4 5 v/ere breast fed. Letters Received: 86. Letters Written: 47. Karilac Sales: S9Blbs. Kariol and Karil: 2281b5. Cases under Care —Babies 96; Older Children, 80; total 176. The work in the district remains much the same, an unusual feature this year being the recurrence of “spots” among babies and children, month after month. Also more than the usual number with colds, especially during the late summer months. The digestion of babies has not been so good as in previous years, due perhaps to the shock, to mothers of previous February’s earthquake. Chicken pox and whooping cough were prevalent the last, four or five months. No epidemic of thf ~ being reported for several years. Miss Pattrick and Miss Hoddinoti paid short visits to the branch, and, as usual many helpful suggestions were offered. .. . The office equipment was moved i ~ a more pleasant room in the building, leaving the old one to be used as a

lumber room for boxes, bicycle, e’e Again, I wish to thank members of the Committee and many mothers for their great kindness to me during the last year. V. SIGNALL, Plunket Nurse.
