Miss Winlove is at present on a visit to Wellington. Mr J. T. Lawn, of the Waipukurau railway staff, has been transferred to Otahuhu. Mr and Mrs D. C. MacDonald, of Norsewood, were visitors to Waipukurau during the week-end. Airs P. Oram and her baby who have been seriously ill in the Waipukurau Hospital, returned home on Saturday. Mrs A. G. Clark of Otane has been admitted to the Waipukurau Hospital for treatment. Mr and Mrs Brown, late of Makotuku, and now of Pawowhai, are spending a few days’ holiday as the guests of Mr and Mrs Gaze, of Norsewood. Mr G. A. Maddison, chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board, with. Mr Bolland, architect, visited Takapau and Ashley Clinton schools to-day. The many friends of Mrs T. E. Colquhorn of Otane, will be pleased to hear that her little daughter. Daphne, who has been a patient in the Napier Hospital fop the past nine weeks, is now progressing favourably. A Press .Association message from Dunedin states that Mr Hugh McAllum dropped dead in George street yesterday morning. The deceased, who was connected with Messrs J. Illiott’s, Ltd., in Wellington, some years ago, was for the last foul' years manager of the Cash Provident Order Co. in Dunedin. He was well known in musical circles and in his younger days was a successful heavy-weight lifter.

Mr R. S. Williams of Otane who has filled the position of sole teacher at the Maharahara West School, for the past 15 months was last week, tenderer a farewell social by the settlers of the district. Mr McLean, chairman of the school committee, on behalf of the parents, expressed their regret in losing Mr Williams’ services, and wishing him every success in his new school in the Otag'o district, asked him to accept a handsome travelling rug—as a token of esteem in remembrance of his pupils. Mr Williams feelingly replied.

Mrs Kathleen Kennedy, wife of Mr Michael Kennedy, of Karioi, and second daughter of Mrs D. Moroney, of Waipawa, passed away with tragic suddenness is the early hours of Saturday morning. She retired on Friday apparently in the best of health, but was found dead next morning by her mother, having passed peacefully away in her sleep. She was of a bright and cheery disposition, and leaves eight children to mourn their loss. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, the . obsequies being conducted by the Rev. Father McGlone and the Rev. Father Roirdan.

Dlr Hugh Hamilton, deputy chairman of the Vacuum Ojl Company Pty., Ltd., Melbourne, has boon presented with the company’s gold thirty-ycar service emblem. The presentation was made by Mr H. C. Cornforth, chairman and

managing director, at a gathering of directors and staff executives, including a number of long, service officers. Mr Hamilton lias been'ft director of the company since 1915, and has played a big part in the company’s affairs including the construction programme of the company throughout Australia and New Zealand, when manufacturing plants were built and main seaboard bulk installations and hundreds of country installations were established in connection with the bulk distribution of the companv’s products.
