BRILLIANT GLOW
■ .. Attendant On Sunsets
DR. EIDSON’S VIEW’S
PHENOMENA DUE VOLCANIC ASH
(Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day
During the past couple of weeks people have been remarking upon the brilliant glow often attendant upon the sunsets, also of the haloes round the sun and moon.
Such reports have come from a number of localities. Moreover, there has been a noticeable drop in temperature. One set of circumstances, according to Dr. Kidson, director of Meteorological services, will account for all these phenomena, that is that the air circulating high over New Zealand has become impregnated with light volcanic ash, carried by prevailing westerly air currents from recent eruptions in Chile. It is too late in the season for the effects to come from bush fire smoke in Australia, besides which they have had rain over there lately.
