A FATAL FALL
50 FEET OVER A CLIFF IN RISSINGTON DISTRICT Kenneth Cowan, aged about 19, was killed yesterday as a result of falling for a distance of about 50 feet over the edge of a cliff at Rissington. Death is believed to have been instantaneous. The deceased, in company with another young man named Algar, was out shooting on Mr Eaton’s property at Rissington at the time.of the accident. He was seen to be walking near the edge of the cliff, but it is unknown whether the portion of the cliff on which he was standing immediately prior to the fall collapsed or whether he fell as a result of leaning too far over the edge. Nobody was near at the time. The fatality occurred at about 3.30 pan. The decaesed’s companion, on later making the tragic discovery, immediately summoned assistance. Constable Gartley, in company with Dr. D. A. 0. Will, left imemdiately from Taradale for the scene of the tradegy, but on their arrival life was found to be extinct. The body was removed to Napier. Cowan’s gun was found to be broken in two by the fall, but it did not discharge, the cartridges being quite intact.
The deceased resided at 31 McVay Street, Napier.
