The White backs opened out, the ball flashing from Smales, to Ferguson, to McCarthy, who made a tricky run, and, on being grassed handed the ball —and an easy try—to Wallis. Smales failed to convert. Old Boys « Takapau 3 A Takapau passing movement broke down when McCarthy intercepted smartly and initiated another irresistible rush. Ferguson, Wright,’ Wilson and W’allis participated in the movement which culminated in a spectacular score by McCarthy. Wallis failed to add the minor points. Old Boys 9 Takapau 9 Nothing daunted, the Red men came again, their bullocking tactics carrying hostilities to the White line, where, after a series of determined tussles, Burgess dived over and scored. Hanita, amid great enthusiasm on the part of the Red supporters, converted, reducing the deficit to one point. Old Boys 9 Takapau 8 There was no alteration at halftime.
