BASKETBALL.

The basketball dance held in the Town Hall on Wednesday night proved a complete success. Excellent music was provided by the Ritz Orchestra and the committee

and M.C.’s, Messrs B. Williams, B. and J. Stephens spared no eflforts to entertain the many visitors who were present from Hastings, Waipukurau and surrounding district. The hall was very prettily decorated with autumn flowers and greenery and an excellent supper was provided by members and friends. A spot waltz was won by Miss Robottom and Mr B. Williams. The members of the girls’ basketball teams are to be congratulated on their success at the field day at Waipukurau on Wednesday. Both A and B teams went through without a loss. Following are the results: Convent beat Onga 6 —4; Otane A beat Wai-

pukurau 11 —5; Ongo beat W.D.H.S. 4— Onga drew with Waipukurau 5 — 5; Waipukurau lost to Waipawa 2 —3; Waipawa lost to Otane A 3 — 11; Otane A beat Convent 5—3; W. D.H.S. lost to Otane B, 7 —3; Convent lost to Otane B, 6 —4; Onga lost to Otane B, 3 —5. Other scores have been previously published. Flock House Scheme. There was a very well attended meeting of returned soldiers and others in the Library on Thursday night to consider the question of raising funds to assist the Flock House scheme. Mr T. Colquhoun, district representative of the R.S.A. was voted to the chair. Mr J. N. Barrie, district representative on the War Relief Association, explained the matter and after answering a number of questions, it was unanimously decided on the motion of Messrs E. Windley and A. E. Black, that the meeting support the project of sending a local boy to Flock House. It was agreed that subscription lists be issued immediately. A further mot-

ion was carried that the R.S.A. and War Relief Association be asked to approach the Premier to have the sons of Imperial men domiciled in New Zealand placed' on the same footing as the sons of New Zealand overseas soldiers with regard to the Government subsidy. Votes, of thanks were passed to Mr. T. Roach, convener of the meeting and to Mr. J. N. Barrie.

At the conclusion, a meeting of Returned Soldiers was held and it was decided to hold a reunion at an early date.
