FLOCK HOUSE SCHEME

TRAINING FOR N.Z. BOYS

WHAT ARE QUALIFICATIONS?

The new Flock House scheme for New Zealand boys was discussed briefly at the annual meeting of the Waipukurau District R.S.A. last evening, the president (Mr A. O. Williams) briefly outlining the proposal. Central Hawke’s Bay he said, was entitled to send one boy to Flock House. The cost of training for eight months would be £5O, of which sum £25 had to be raised in the district. The amount to be raised in Waipukurau was £lO. Mr T. G. G'iven suggested that the £lO might be raised by means of a dance.

Mr F. R. Logan asked what were the qualifications of prospective applicants. The president: A boy whoso father was killed in the war and who is anxious to receive training.

Mr Logan: There may be boys who come within, the qualifications yet whose parents could afford to pay. It doesn’t seem .fair that they should receive the benefit of public money. The president: I think we can safely leave it to the committee set up by the War Relief Association to consider all the factors. It was decided that a ball should be held, in conjunction with the War Relief Association, proceeds to be devoted to the Flock House scheme and to the Association’s unemployment fund. The following committee was set up with power to add ladies: —Colonel A. S. Wilder, Messrs S. Annand, I. AV. N. Mackie, T. Given, R. S. Ricketts, A. L. McCormick, J. Pender, L. De Clifford and G. E. Granger.
